Brighton Rock Cover

For this third-year project, I produced a book jacket design for the iconic thriller novel Brighton Rock by Graham Greene. Set in the dark underworld of 1930s Brighton, the story focuses on power and conflict through themes of good and evil.

Inspired by a particular passage in the book where the main character Pinkie recites the phrases of the classic chance rhyme "She loves me... she loves me not" whilst he removes the limbs and wings of a crane fly in place of daisies. In my interpretation, the broken crane-fly represents both Pinkie and Rose's characters in the sense that they are the hands tearing apart themselves as they complete and destroy each other in a vicious cycle.

I sourced images for personal use in my design from Adobe Stock and Unsplash.
